She said Dunn gave her the bullet, told her how lucky she was and that the bullet had her name it. He also said he would kill both children after murdering her. Jurors heard a scratchy tape recording, police made when they asked her to get Dunn to talk about the incident. Dunn appears to confirm on the tape that he had been snorting cocaine earlier, had borrowed a gun, and had played Russian roulette with the alleged victim.

But he denies that the sex was not consensual. When her children got home, she met them at the door and fled with them in her car, leaving Dunn inside the house. The coroner called the death highly suspicious, and said toxicology screens and other test results are not expected for several days. The body appeared to have been dumped, said Sheriff's Maj. Rick Perez.

The hillside area is not where someone likely would be walking and not where someone could have been knocked by a motor vehicle, he said. His trial continues today. raised by their maternal grandmother in Detroit. Dortch said she didn't learn of her sister's death until Wednesday afternoon in a call from Angela's husband, Keith A. Smith. "Any time Angela left for several days, (Keith) always knew that she was coming to visit us or going to Detroit to visit her sister," said Dortch, although she did not know of any time Smith had been in Columbus since the 1999 visit.

Keith Smith told police he didn't report his wife missing until Nov. 26, six days after he awoke to find she left without saying where she was going. She had been fired from a laboratory technician's position about two weeks before her disappearance. Her car was found abandoned in an Alliance parking lot several days later with no signs of foul play, police said. Smith's sister Stephanie Swan, 49, of Detroit, described their relationship as close and said they used to talk often over the telephone.

The last time they spoke, however, was about six months ago, Swan said. "I don't know why she didn't call me anymore," she said, adding that the last time she saw her sister was during a visit to Detroit in 1998. was at a neighbor's house playing video games with another teen. Schaber, who had come home from work and then left after an argument with her fiancee, said she had fallen asleep in a lowerlevel room after returning home. She awakened to find the basem*nt filling with smoke.

She said she didn't hear any screams from the living room as she tried to force her way into the kitchen to try to reach the three victims. When she couldn't get into the kitchen and living room, she ran out the side door and went to the front door. Firefighters said she told them that she opened the front door and got into a hallway off the living room, but was forced back outside by heat, smoke and flames. At a news conference three days later, she said she wasn't able to get inside through the front door, which firefighters AREA DEATHS Gilmore, Mary 83, of Canton. Wednesday.

She later moved to Columbus, where she met and married Keith Smith seven years ago. Ruth Edmondson, 82, Smith's aunt in Columbus, said Smith stayed with her for a short time before getting married and moving to Alliance six years ago. Alliance Municipal Court records show Smith was charged with driving under the influence in November 1999. She pleaded no contest in January 2000, was fined $500 and completed a driver's intervention program in lieu of jail. She also spent three days in jail in 1998 a and 13 days in 1999 on domestic violence charges that were reduced to disorderly conduct as part of pleas, records show.

Some fines were suspended for attending counseling. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. tomorrow at R.A. Franklin funeral home, 683 S. Liberty Alliance.

Concatto said that "though the origin of the fire was determined to be in the living room, no conclusive source of ignition can be found at this time." "We're still investigating the blaze, but our momentum is slowed down unless something new comes our way.

We've exhausted all avenues to this point." The chief also said that results from analysis of evidence at the Stark County Crime Lab and the coroner's office also were inconclusive. The three deaths brought Stark's fire death toll for 2000 to five. The others occurred in Jackson Township in June and North Canton in October. Canton had four of Stark's eight fire deaths in 1999.
